Now word documents open in Microsoft Word by default like they should. However, by changing the default, the icons for word documents have changed from the normal word icon to a blank icon with lines and a ” DOCX ” written on the bottom of the icon.

My countless hours searching online for a fix have failed. I tried uninstalling Office Starter and then reinstalling Office Professional Plus with no luck, so I system restored back. If I try to open a document with Office Starter, it now asks me for a product key which doesn’t make any sense since that is supposed to be a free limited version that shipped with the laptop.

I can still open everything with Office Professional Plus, but if I set Microsoft Word as the default, then I get the wrong icons.

I am positive that Office Starter is causing this problem with the icons somehow because only word documents and excel spreadsheets are effected not PowerPoint, Access or other programs that come with Office Professional AND because on my Vista desktop that has Office and has never had Office Starter , I have no problems at the moment.
